Roll necks are no longer synonymous with geography teachers and posh folk sitting in their drawing rooms surrounded by leather bound books.

We saw them come to the forefront last Autumn/Winter and this will continue again as we head into the colder months. Their advantage is their versatility as we saw them cross trends on the catwalk. From merino wool versions worn underneath a tailored suit jacket in the Lanvin show to a chunky knit being the foundation when channelling the inner adventurer as seen in the Topman Design show.

Rather than building a layered formal look to keep warm this winter for example with a shirt, jumper and jacket combo. You can easily deduct a few of these pieces by throwing in a roll neck to your look. Not only will you keep the chills at bay but it will easily smarten up any outfit with ease. Team a roll neck with a suit jacket or even with just your winter jacket of choice (weather depending) to offer a different look for the smart casual office attire.

The chunky versions in my opinion are perfect for the weekend when you want to be casual but nice and toasty at the same time. Team it with some slim fitted chinos and another of this seasons trends; hiking boots for your very own winter pub lunch attire.
