How To Start a Skincare Regime

There is an outdated opinion amongst some men, that a skincare regime is just for women. In all honesty, there is nothing feminine about starting a daily skincare routine. If you want to get noticed when you step out of the house, practice proper skin hygiene. You do not need to wait until there is a skin issue like acne, dry skin or even wrinkles to get started.  A daily skincare routine is one of the best methods of maintaining healthy skin and preventing these issues.

The best part is, it’s never too late to start with a regime that will get your skin to the desired condition. First things first, know your skin type. There are three most popular skin types and each requires a different method of approach to keep them in top form. They are;

  • Oily Skin: People with oily skin have a natural shine of oil to their skin. Acne and spots mixed with dirt can quickly build up on this skin type.
  • Dry Skin: Dry skin easily cracks up, leading to irritation, redness and soreness
  • Normal skin: If you have normal skin you are in luck. Your skin neither feels oily nor dry for the best part of the day.

As a sidenote, those with combination skins (a mixture of the above) may need to focus on a mix of products that will best combat different problem areas of the face.

1. Cleanse

Start your day with an early morning facial cleanse using a men’s facial cleanser made specifically for your skin type. They are numerous benefits to cleansing your face in the mornings;

  • Removes dirt and impurities that might have built up over the night
  • Brightens up the skin preventing dullness

Evening Routine

Before you go to bed, rinse off all the dirt that might have clogged the pores of your face and skin. Washing your skin might not be enough especially in days when you might have had a hectic day at work or in school.

1. Toner

Use skin toner to clear any remaining dirt residue that might still be hanging in the pores. Toners are known to smoothen and refresh the skin preventing acne and irritation. So, there is no reason why you shouldn’t get a good toner.

2. Apply Serum

Apply a rich serum to reverse the effect of sun rays and exposure. The serum will gently work overnight while you sleep, tackling fine lines and slowing removing wrinkles. Most anti-aging products work best at night.

3. Use a Night Cream

Look for a quality night cream for your skin type that can help hydrate and moisturise your skin while you sleep.  The combo of moisturising cream and an anti-ageing cream by nightfall will work wonders to promote healthy skin.
