In a very competitive retail market in the UK, it can sometimes be difficult for men’s brands to be able to give marketing weight to their more engaging and original key pieces that don’t necessarily appeal to the wider masses. After all, targets need to be hit and the tills need to be ringing. This is where I feel Burton’s Montague range tends to sit. At risk of being a conceptual idea that gets brushed under the carpet as the 18-24 market (their core customer base) favours novelty t-shirts and hi-top trainers.

I remember a couple of years ago when Burton were getting the range featured on key sites and in print publications but these day maybe due to poor sales they have decided to throw money at Calum Best as the front man for their spring summer campaign.

Burton, founded in 1904 is a mainstay of the UK menswear high street with the Montague Burton range a nod to the founder and a modern take on the familiar ‘heritage’ word thrown around in fashion. For me a key piece from the latest collection is the pictured, men’s blue wool blazer.

The 100% wool blazer with marbled buttons can become a key item in any man’s winter wardrobe. Dress the blazer with a simple plain coloured tee, and selvedge jeans to create a great outfit with a less formal feel. Or alternatively team with a crisp white shirt, some merino knitwear and light grey formal trousers to make a real hit this autumn winter.

Montague Burton combines high quality fabrics and classic design to deliver key menswear pieces that can be worn from autumn through winter and if partnered with lighter fabrics then spring as well. I would encourage any discerning gentleman to explore the range and bypass the mass market products that the brand offers to find some real gems.
